I STRONGLY disagree with that. My son attends an 'inner city' magnet school in Tampa (and my oldest graduated from there a few years ago). The school is about 3/4 black (local kids) and 1/4 magnet (predominately white). I know many of the teachers there (both magnet and traditional). almost ALL of them work hard to TRY and teach the kids (there are a few who do as little as possible, but the principal is working hard to eliminate them).

The problem is LACK OF FAMILY AND VALUES. Those kids do not see the value in an education. Most come from single parent homes and were not taught the basic values (respect, honesty, etc).

Having taught hs for several years, I can tell you - you cannot teach someone who doesn't want to learn!

So refreshing to see a black person acknowledge the facts instead of being sucked into the victimhood mentality. I only wish there were more who could see things your way.

I am not black; but, I was born in South Georgia to share cropper parents and as long as we lived there we were looked on as white trash and alternately patted on the head and cursed. But, my parents believed in hard work and education. We worked hard both in school and in the fields. We did not understand the culture of more fortunate people; but, we could read books and learn of it so there was no argument that tests were skewed. Fortunately, there were no liberals trying to train us up in their theology so that we would continue to rely on the government. I hate to see this happening. By now, we should not be having race discussions at all.

You said it. We should already be there by now. Our politicians, especially democrats, continue to perpetuate race and class warfare and they do not want a "colorblind society where you are judged by your character and not the color of your skin".

President Barack Obama recently wrote an executive order that established a White House initiative on educational excellence for black Americans that will be housed in the Department of Education. It proposes "to identify evidence-based best practices" to improve black achievement in school and college. Though black education is in desperate straits, the president's executive order will accomplish absolutely nothing to improve black education. The reason is that it does not address the root causes of educational rot among black Americans. It's not rocket science; let's look at it.

The president's initiative contains not one word about rampant inner-city school violence,...
