Very good article, probablly true but lacks one optimistic consideration: the effect of the tea party on the GOP. It is the only hope that the GOP has of regaining anything close to what it used to be as a party. The tea party will either resurrect the GOP as it did in 2010, or if the Karl Rove's of the party continue to try and shut them out, this will be the last presidential election that theGOP as we know it will exist. The tea party will emerge as a viable party by 2016 and the GOP will become the new third party.

He had it right, as Todd Akin can testify.

In an interview that aired last Sunday, Akin, the Republican candidate for Senate in Missouri, was asked whether he opposed abortions for women who had been raped. Akin's reply:

"From what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. ... If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down ... .
