Thanks for stressing the obvious Gato ! A minimum flat tax on EVERYBODY should be a rock-bottom Repub demand just like the prez has his rock-bottom demand to tax the rich more. Broadening the tax base is vital to the budget problems and is the height of fairness. Unless EVERYONE has skin in the game, America will continue to see itself dividing into the payers and the payees. Eventually the payees will overwhelm the payers. WATCH AND SEE !

In private conversation, some in the GOP appear a little sheepish about the fact that they once took the president seriously. Even though he had the upper hand after winning re-election, they thought he genuinely wanted to avoid going over the cliff and would negotiate in good faith. Then Obama sent Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to Capitol Hill with a thumb-in-the-eye offer, and Republicans got the message.
