Marriage: Full “Court” Press Needed

garryg24 Wrote: Aug 03, 2010 11:09 AM
Wrong! What a fool you are. I'm just sick and tired of watching religious nuts shoving their crap down the rest of our throats. Witness the bible-belt efforts to deny science and ram ID into classrooms. Those guys living down the street aren't bothering me at all. They're not going to affect my marriage a bit. Spend your time and energy worrying about the real threat, the radical Islamists. When they start to impose their Sharia, you'll be wishing there were a few gay marriages around.
It's a sad state of affairs we've come to in this country. Our political choices have boiled down to electing either religious nut or socialists. I want more, adult-level choices in the candidate slate. It is painfully obvious that all the opposition to any redefinition of marriage is religion based. It has no business in setting government policy. As an atheist and heterosexual, I could care less what those two guys living together down the street call their relationship. They're going to be there regardless. Children who are aware of them and their relationship are not going to be fooled and are due an explanation, regardless of the semantics. Can't we all just grow up?

Politics: The Art of the Unbelievable

If our whole country has not yet arrived as a new banana-republic, Illinois has certainly shown us the path. A sad state of affairs.

Mostly nonsense, Mike. Let's hope that post-post modernism will include a realistic, scientific assessment of what human beings really are (an evolved primate) and how we really (non-religiously) fit into the universe. Reversing course and basing human relationships on religion will only result in the continued schism of existing denominations into ultimate chaos. Each each non-atheist will have his own religion. Has history shown that significant religious conversion or the successful merging of denominations is viable? I don't think so.

Racial Politics Blows Up in Obama's Face

There simply is no leadership in Washington. It's amazing that, in a country of 300 million, we can't come up with better. Unfortunately, it seems our choices are limited to being led by either religious-nuts or near-communists. Common-sense adults are too wise to run for office.

Why Eric Holder Will Not Last

It seems to me, Kevin, that you're wrong. I agree with DanNV that Holder must be simply doing Obama's bidding. Obama has often enough shown that he doesn't give a hoot about the law or the public's real interests. I won't be the least bit surprised if Holder and, by extension, Obama continue to blunder their way through what they see somehow as punishment for past white-devil sins. When they're thrown out of office in 2012 they'll slap each other on the back and imagine that they had a pretty good run and start charging for speeches here and there. Good on ya, Asok. The problem in Washington is a complete lack of leadership. It's amazing that in a nation of 300 million we can't, somehow, come up with better. Unfortunately, our...

Immigrants -- Good or Bad?

Amen to the idea that our society has changed MARKEDLY. The values that Carnegie found when he landed on our shores have dissolved in the a series of standoffs. There's not much left in our newly established banana-republic to assimilate into. The smart money in Latin America will stay home.

Immigrants -- Good or Bad?

Now that the US is little more than another banana-republic (witness, among other examples, the recent government handling of the Shirley Sherrod affair), the old advantages of allowing an indiscriminate and steady flow of immigrants into the country, legal or otherwise, make no sense anymore. The traditional values within the established population are dissolving into standoffs between "conservatives" and "progressives", religious nuts and atheists, ambitious people and welfare addicts (the addicts are winning), people with ethics and scoundrels (scoundrels gaining), and, worst of all, Judeo-Christians and Muslims (holy war is coming!). What is left for all the immigrants to assimilate into? The US is a completely different place...

How to Solve the Immigration Mess

garryg24 Wrote: Jul 19, 2010 8:31 AM
Never happen, Bruce. We're just stuck with the mess unless we somehow simply prevent illegals from working in the US and deny them welfare. We, further, should refuse Western-World, higher education to all Middle-Easterners until men of good sense and influence in that region straighten out their own radical religious mess. Those men, who want to send their precious off-spring to Western schools will figure out how to get it done, where we Westerners never will.
