Regarding "giving unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's" - I have thought about this. This is America. We have no Ceasar, no dictator, no emperor. Instead, we have a government of the People, by the People, and for the People. It brings into question, for me, if Jesus' phrase is applicable.

Fuzzy- I don't think Jesus cares what kind of govt we have. We are personally responsible for helping those in need. The Helpless not the Clueless.

Letting the govt do it for us is not what He had in mind.

On the other hand, if Uncle Sam wants to write "Jesus Saves" and "Bless You. Love, Jesus" on all handouts I won't stop him.

The reason we comply with govt dictates is to avoid govt retaliation. If the early Christians refused to pay their taxes, they would have been lion food much sooner.

A few stray thoughts and observations in the aftermath of the 2012 election -- on substance, process, and tactics:

(1) The polls were broadly right, both at the state and national levels -- a dichotomy that I believed to be unlikely in the extreme as recently as yesterday morning.  The electorate ended up being D+6, nearly on par with 2008, and six points better than the 2010 midterms.  I was wrong about this, as were a good number of other observers.  The 2012 party ID figures from Gallup and Rasmussen upon which my assumptions were based were...
