Wow. You have no faith in people, but you trust the government. How does that work?!!! I don't think either one of us is an "anything goes so long as it feels good" so you can give up that canard right away. We both agree that some things are bad for us and we shouldn't do them or promote them. But it's our responsibility and no one else's. I am not in the least concerned about what air safety would be in the gov got out of it. If it's not safe, no customers.

I like to bet on sports. Having a stake in the game, even if it's just five bucks, makes it more exciting. I also like playing poker. "Unacceptable!" say politicians in much of America. "Gambling sometimes leads to 'addiction,' destitute families!"

So politicians ban it. It's why we no longer see a poker game in the back of bars. Half the states even ban poker between friends -- though they rarely enforce that.
