Which means that we must understand what personal and ideological qualities produce someone "who can, by enormous force of will and with great assistance from many talented people, turn the country’s direction back towards greatness." That is our task in the months ahead.

There's Compromise, and There's Compromise

It seems to me the 'no compromise' position fails to recognize the reality that nothing can be done in Washingto without Obama's signature. So, if the Bush Tax cuts are to be extended, Obama's signature must be bought with some- pardon the expression- compromise! That's the politial reality for the next two years and strict adherence to principle to the exclusion of compromise only makes the GOP truly the 'party of no." Right now, the Democrats have that honor and we should leave it that way.
This result and the major GOP gains in state legislatures suggest a shift of power and emphasis from national to state governments and institutions. States have the power, if they choose to exercise it, to undo some of the recent socialist legislation like the healthcare mandate and can take on the federal government on economic policy, welfare, deficit spending, education, immgration reform. Perhaps an era of local government can be born out of the current chaos.

Rethinking George Bush?

Now let's get this straight: Bush is now a good guy because Obama has followed the same policies (regarding the economy, Iraq, Afghanistan) and performed just as poorly.

Like, Is Sarah Palin Totally Conceited?

As Coulter pains the article, it does seem a shallow attempt to discredit Palin. But if we read SARAH FROM ALASKA, by Scott Conroy & Shushannah Walshe, we get an in-depth view of Palin that jives with the incidents Gross describes. Apparently, Palin is convinced her own 'gut instincts' are correct to the exclusion of advice from others. She trusts no one except her husband, Todd and is vindictive when crossed or opposed by those she considers her friends. Not a pretty pciture.

The gender label may not be applicable- perhaps other issues drive the Palin story.

American Decline is a State of Mind

Hanson's last sentence has it backwards. "America may well soon decline and simply become no different from any other nation. But such a depressing future would largely be our generation's own free choice; it is not a historical inevitability." He implies that the current generation must choose the national decline. Not so. Rather, we must choose to reverse it. Otherwise, it is inevitable.

Obama's Proud Muslim Moment

The notion that anyone should care what a poll in Muslim nations says about an American president is stupid in the extrreme.

Heeding Helen

A. We did the right thing- listen to Helen and 'ease' her out.
B. The Palentinians want Israel eradicated. Israel won't stop taking over more Palestinian land. Neither of these people really want peace because both have strong beliefs that are in opposition to each other. Perhaps if the rest of the world would leave them alone, they would realize the necessity of working out something between them.

"Every Other Monday" By John Kasich

I think the book is useful in giving the people of Ohio a better understanding of a popular man who wants to be their governor. They can read the book and determine whether his faith will be an asset (Reagan, Lincoln) or a liability (Carter, Bush43) when in office. Perhaps I should mention Wilson among the faithful, but he had faith only in himself!
