Thank you AFVet for the voice of reason! Just because our state is large and West TX is more rural than the heavily populated areas, people actually are "buying into" this stupid reasoning! EVERY county within TX has a DPS station and, as you said, for the more rural areas, they come to the town instead of the townspeople having to go to them! There is only one group of people that this will prevent from voting....the over 1 million illegals, in our state!
Mother of 4....if anyone chooses to check, they will find there is a Driver's license (which also issues ID's) in EVERY county in Texas, so no, it's not a fact that a person has to make a "200 mile round trip". As big as Texas is, there is no county THAT BIG (or even half that big)! Folks, those of us who live in TX know exactly what the laws were passed and why Holder is trying to stop them. Given you have no requirement to provide ID when you fill out (or vote) a registration card (and they conveniently have them in Spanish) the primary goal is to shut out the over 1 MILLION illegals from being able to register and vote....and guess who benefits from their vote???? The Dems do.
Allison, it won't matter if the US signs or doesn't. Several decades ago, the Supreme Court ruled that the US is NOT bound by any treaty that conflicts with our Constitution....last I heard, the 2nd Amendment still stands thus this treaty would "conflict with our Constitution".
Actually Doc, according to my brother in law, who served as a "River Rat" in Vietnam, these boats are very similar to the patrol abilities that his Navy boat had...fast and can skim water as shallow as 12 inches deep
RodT, these boats are to be used against the drug cartel, not the illegals, so they have nothing to do with "border control". While Texas Rangers are chosen from our DPS officers, they will not be the ones assigned to these boats...DPS officers will.
Becca, you're being too kind to Jim. If he's from CA, then he already knows that approximately 26% of his state's population are illegals. Is it any wonder that state is bankrupt?
who was shot instead of ICE. If not a rancher, Border Patrol officers usually are the 2nd target of choice. You people who think this is all a big joke need a reality check! Maybe we should ship about 1/2 million of them, inland, to your state and see how you like supporting them and dealing with the crime that they bring with them!
They are authorized to use the guns because their designated targets are drug smugglers.
Stan, these boats are for drug inforcemnt, NOT for border control of illegals crossing over. It doesn't matter if the drug cartels can "track" them or not. Their intent is to be highly visiable! If they patrol the Rio Grande, like they do our highways, there will be "doubling back" included in their patrols so the cartel will never know, for sure, if they will make a pass, then return, instead of going farther up their assigned patrol. Since this is for drug smugglers, they WILL be allowed to shoot (and will) if fired upon and I don't mean a little hand gun will be doing the shooting.
