John, generally good stuff except for that blarney about Reagan overhauling Soc Sec w/ the dems. That bill was nothing more than a "tax 'em more, kick it down the road" legislation. Well, we are now "down the road" and Soc sec/Medicare is still a budget busting mess. Reagan had a chance to really do something by eliminating the dept of Ed and privatizing soc sec and he blinked. Please get off this worship of RR. He was no god nor a true republicans, having significantly raised taxes 3 times in his admin and acquiescing to the democrats in Congress to continue the vast overspending.

At the time that's all Reagan could do, remember, Dumbocrats ran both houses! He als had to deal with taxation and Tip promised 1.00 tax he'd cut 2.00 in spending, he lied like all dumbocrats!

Yep, the Dems ran a bait and switch on Reagan.

Not good karma for their "party". NOT GOOD KARMA at all.
Wumingren Wrote: Aug 05, 2012 6:13 PM
And the bait and switch has become the standard that RINOs fall for all the time, like Charlie Brown and Lucy with that gosh darned football.

Free thinker also failed to address the point you made about RR having to deal with a democrat congress. 11 hours later, free thinker came back on the site to say he "won". Liberals avoid those that prove a point.

FreeThinker, you have just launched from your sphincter covered communication portal, something that was clearly free of any and all thought.

Nobody, with the exception of your kind of libturds will ever view Ronald Reagan as a "god". And, I don't know how you define "true republican" since in my view we have had lots of not very damn "true republicans".....Arlin Spector, Richard Lugar, Michael Bloomberg, John Chafee, Lincoln Chafee, Olympia Snow, and her side kick Collins just to name a few.

Ronald Reagan was far more definable as a nation loving conservative, than he was ever defined by some political Party.

I didn't like his SS/Medicare reforms, but for different reasons than I suspect your dislikes are all about. ....

And, now I am far too limited by TH to respond point by point to all of your FreeFlowingBS!

For a "free-thinker", he sure takes things out of context.

Methinks rather than launching fruitless attaches, SageAdvice 12 might consult some history books. Reagan ran on eliminating the Dept of Ed and failed to even write a bill that could have been introduced. He did blink, with RINO Dole, in kicking the can down the road w/ Soc Sec. He could have stood his ground and leveled w/ the Am people about where soc sec was eventually headed (they all knew it at the time but preferred to cut a deal with Mitchell and Rostenkowski so they could go have a drink). And yes, most "conservatives" do revere Reagan as a God. All one has to do is to tune into most mainstream republican talk radio/TV.
Reagan has his good points, certainly, but he wasn't a republican in the Barry Goldwater mold.

Free Thinker,

.... Many of us do not need a Lib-tard counterfactual herstory to tell us what happened.

We were there. We know what happened. Ron faced a Hate Machine without any Internet Reality-Based blogosphere to defend him. He was surrounded by Bushies, and RINO mushes, and he managed with what he had.

I doubt you could run a donut shop under the same circumstances....

You guys are all so funny. Remember, when one resorts to name calling one has lost the argument.
Each of you has failed to rebut my statements: Reagan said he would eliminate the dept of Ed and didn't even try. He punted big time on Soc Sec. Why don't you just admit that and move on.
As to your comments about running a "donut shop," I run a multi-million dollar investment advisory business and have voted libertarian for as long as I can remember. What's really funny about "conservatives" is that they don't even realize they are just as bad as the "liberals" in terms of govt spending. It's just different spending, unless one is named George Bush, then it's the same.
