Exactly. We have become a nation of thieves by thinking that someone SHOULD pay for our existence because of our failure to save ourselves.

They call that "honesty."

You are correct. Unless someone has been totally incapacitated all their lives. There is no reason why a person cannot save.

To add to your comment Wendy. IT is US that are ultimately be responsible for ourselves. We cannot hold others responsible to "save" us from our failure to save etc. LTC insurance are not that expensive if you get in early. Now, if someone volunteers to "help" (and there are MANY that will) then that's fantastic, but we should not use coercion (GOVERNMENT programs) as a form of "helping" anyone. Good comment.

What's amazing about some of the comments is that "honesty" is being described as "cruel, heartless etc." We all know what happens with life. It goes through stages..infancy to old age. It has NEVER changed. We all know that at some point our bodies are going to fail us. The advancement in medicine haven't prevented this from happening. So, you know what that means? WE prepare for those times..T WILL COME whether we like it or not. WHY do we always want the the government to "do something" to save societies ills? Government is the cause of OUR ECONOMIC ills today! MEdicine and healthcare in general is UNAFFORDABLE BECAUSE of GOVERNMENT, and yet this author want the government to do something?

To those who choose the color of their skin (or being a minority), or being "poor" as an excuse not to succeed. Enough already! As a minority, it's insulting and downright ignorant. WE as individuals create our own "life" or problems 99.99% of the time. You know what that means? Look in the mirror, the answer is right in front of you if you ever wonder how to get it of your situation.

abandonement of personal responsibility is a choice that ONE make. At some point in our lives we have to make a "choice." It is not a top down approach.

Health Care Reform: A Better Plan

Mr. Krauthammer, you have a good idea there but Democrats would never allow that to happen. Doing so means teaching one to be independent and oh that would mean that they CAN'T STEAL from the rich? That's a bad idea! As long as the government has a hand on healthcare, things will only get worse. We can thank the democrat party for the mess with medicaid and medicare; after all, it's their plan. The skyrocketing cost of care is cause by government intervention via medicaid and medicare. It is extremely difficult for any business in the healthcare industry to survive without increasing cost to an astronomical level, thanks to the price controls implemented by the government (through medicaid and medicare). A business simply cannot...
