Apparently, nature - the same nature "red in tooth and claw" according to Browning, is the one that provided the "right" to pursuit of happiness for Don. Nature consists of prey, and predators. It's death and conflict and struggle, not little fuzzy happy bunnies in languid pools of sunshine. Someone is in for some hard learning, unfortunately.
