Nice, Seawolf! But I would also cut the military by closing 800+ bases in 120+ nations around the world & end the undeclared/Unconstitutional wars while still building at home missile defense & upgrading our weapons. I know you've disagreed with me in the past on this, but economic reality is we can't be the world's policeman any more, even if we wanted to. But I think a policy of non-intervention (not isolationism) is the best policy unless we are attacked or directly threatened. Anyways, Boehner would be well to take your advice!

Then, I think, we can basically agree and are basically on the same page.
Unfortunately, Boehner & the Establishment GOP are not with us.

I agree with you 100%, but Boehner needs replacing.

Frank, I actually agree on closing some bases, the idea that our troopers are being used as "tripwires" in Korea for example is just plain wrong. We need a presence in the ME, but this nation building is insane, you cannot force our system of gov't on a tribal societies, it simply will not work....In fact this clown in the WH has done his best to divide US along the same lines much to our detriment.

I would pull back to our home shores in most cases, but make it very clear that the policy of Adm Mahan of our past history would be in place...embargo any strategic material needed by the US would result in some very uncomfortable things happening to that nation immediately.
The beginning of a new year is often a time to look forward and look back. The way the future looks, I prefer to look back -- and depend on my advanced age to spare me from having to deal with too much of the future.

If there are any awards to be given to anyone for what they did in 2012, one of those rewards should be for prophecy, if only because prophecies that turn out to be right are so rare.

With that in mind, my choice for the prediction of the year award goes to Bret Stephens of the Wall...
