Perhaps you misunderstand what "freedom of speech" means. It does NOT mean that people are not allowed to respond or defend their own particular views/opinions... Vandalizing a billboard is ALSO free speech...

There is a free speech right to put up a competing billboard or even urge the billboard company to take it down but you think there is a right to vandalize someone's elses property? Secretary of State John Kerry was barely off the plane in Germany before he embarrassed himself—and all of us—with what is perhaps the worst defense of religious freedom ever offered.
