The great error in this story in his effort to indicate that its wrong to take from the younger worker and give to the retiree is that all retiree's were one time that younger worker and we understood that is how it worked. The truth is simple. We were decieved and lied to by our government and they stole the money for there special interests and relections and now they are looking for loopholes to cover there deception. Lastly now my mind and body is wore out and hurts and I can't start over and even make a living now because I'm simply not physically capable. I'm at the mercy of those to keep there promise.

First of all, even if SS was a retirement plan, I don't believe they ever claiming it was the one and only plan or source of income needed to retire. If it is all you have, that is your fault.

I don't think anyone wants to take benefits away from people like you! My mom is in a similar situation and couldn't survive without her SS checks, along with the retirement she gets from her former employer. She certainly worked hard all her life and deserves everything she gets. I'm in my 40s and I know better than to count on SS still being there by the time I'm ready to retire. We need to honor the commitment to people like you, but change the system for the rest of us!

2 younger workers for every retiree is not going to cut it.

Some of the responses to my column last week, titled "Immoral Beyond Redemption," prove that Americans have been hoodwinked by Congress. Some readers protested my counting Social Security among government handout programs that can be described as Congress' taking what belongs to one American and giving to another, to whom it doesn't belong -- legalized theft. They argued that they worked for 45 years and paid into Social Security and that the money they now receive is theirs. These people have been duped and shouldn't be held totally accountable for such a belief. Let's look at it.
