Even in an area where the public schools are considered to be excellent, after years of success in which I worked my way to having top classes I was given students who could not do fifth grade math, as tested at the beginning of the year. I could get no help from the administration with disciplne. I worked harder than I ever had with any other students with little success. The administration blamed me and I took early retirement to save both my mental and physcial health. My point is two fold. Those students should never have been passed on into high school and without disciplinary support no teacher can achieve what Obama believe an edict will attain.

I merely wish to remind the 966 who responded previously of Mr. Sowell's final two paragraphs which I have copied and pasted below. It is quite clear that his warning is appropriate for many of the responders! The Moral Infrastructure is sadly lacking. Lib at Heart What is "liberal" about having govenment tell you what to do with your property. One of many examples. A water pipe burst in my front yard, my son and I dug it up and I hired a man to replace the pipe who was not a registered plumber. Officials found out and threatened to fine me--and they did charge the man who did the plumbing. I had to testiry at his hearing. The idiots said "The pipe might have have been placed so shallow it would freeze" when it was at the same level of the ditch we dug--and it would have been my stupidity to repair it if it froze. They let the man off and let him apply for a license. That was twenty or more years ago and the pipe is still working fine.
