In response to:

Israel Prepares for Ground War Against Hamas

One article, 228 comments, and not one mention of Ahmed Jabari. Was there some particular provocation for assassinating him and setting off this whole mess?

I was lucky enough to get through to the Michael Medved show a few minutes ago, and Michael was interviewing his brother Jonathan who apparently lives in Israel. I asked the same question of them, and Jonathan replied:

"Yes, there was an *incredible* recent provocation, and now one covered it but the Medved show----" but then Michael pressed the Big Red Hangup Button, and I had already left my car and could not turn on the radio, so I've no idea what Jonathan said.

Can anybody fill that in?!?

Israel and HAMAS are AT WAR,there has been no peace agreement between them. Just ceasefires, that HAMAS regularly violates with rocket and mortar fire into Israel.(all acts of war...)
That means military personnel like Jabari are FAIR GAME,legit to be killed on sight, and that's NOT any "assassination".

Is that like a "War on Drugs" kind of war, or did the Israeli Government actully declare war on Hamas?

And BTW, the American Heritage Dictionary defines assassination thusly: "To murder (a prominent person) by surprise attack, as for political reasons."

No qualifications about Wartime or Peacetime. But I guess 'assassinate' sound too dignified for your tastes, as if a Human Being was killed instead of a terrorist animal.

Moron; (and weasel)
"murder" is the WRONGFUL killing of another, and Jabari being a MILITARY commander of HAMAS,it's NOT wrong to kill him. Nor is it any "assassination".

as for your nonsense about declaring war, with that, you just further demonstrate your stupidity.

I think it's an honest question, Jay Wye, it's too bad you're too busy name-calling to try to answer it.

I suspect that if Netanyahu were done in by the Palestinians you'd call it murder, assassination, a terrorist atrocity, all manner of things, and I doubt you'd care that Hamas & Israel are at war.

Killing Jabari was not political, it was tactical. Tactical, in the same way that shooting someone who is shooting at you is.

Over the weekend, more than 400 Hamas rockets came flying into Israel. The Iron Dome, Israel's missile defense system, shot down the majority of them but not all, leaving nearly a dozen Israelis injured. Diplomatic talks have been underway for days but nothing seems to be happening. Egypt has taken the side of Hamas and the rocket attacks aren't stopping. This has prompted Israel to prepared ground troops for a potential invasion of Gaza.

Thousands of Israeli troops are massed near the Gaza border, meanwhile, awaiting an order to invade should Israeli leaders decide to widen the...
