My Rick Perry Problem -- and Ours

The problem is that leftists keep throwing red herrings and straw-man arguments out there, and conservatives fall for the bait every time. We shouldn't even be addressing such ridiculous arguments; in doing so we allow the left to set the agenda for us, and we end up with candidates such as John McCain. It's time that conservatives start playing by street rules, get a little more savvy, and a lot more dispassionate about things that don't matter, and force the leftist candidate to answer tough, substantive questions. We must not allow ourselves to be distracted by the kind of nonsense that gave us 2008's election results.

Why, oh why, are Replublicans so short on brains and balls? Or is it that they're all just RINO's? They've *all* got to go, every last Republican who couldn't hold the line, and all the Democrats. We have *got* to have fresh bood in Washington. That's the only thing that will fix this problem.

The only reason tax cuts weren't effective is that they weren't accompanied by corresponding spending cuts, for a variety of reasons. The bottom line is that spending has to be cut. Raising taxes isn't effective, because those who can afford to do so find legal ways to avoid paying them. This is a no -brainer. History has shown repeatedly that when the government raises taxes, it spends more, no matter who is in power. The madness has to stop, and stop now.

Brent, I wish you were right, but in the forty-plus-years that I've been watching presidential politics, the one thing I'm sure of is that the electorate have awfully short memories. I know that a lot of pundits have already declared Obama unelectable in '12, but I'm not counting him out yet. Democrats are never called to account for their sins; like a cat, they just keep landing on their feet.

Fascism Is Not Conservatism

I suppose one could say that fascism is on the "right." It is, after all to the "right" of communism in the same sense that South America is to the north of Antarctica; however, just as both continents remain south of the equator, so both communism and fascism are political ideologies that remain on the left of the political spectrum, because they both espouse statist control over industry and limits on individual rights. Conservatives stand for limited government and individual liberty. Anyone who fails to note this difference is blind or stupid.

Doug, the problem is that schools don't teach basic logic anymore. If they did they'd have to field uncomfortable questions from intelligent students, and Heaven knows, they don't want *that*! Are surprised that the U.S. ranks low in the area of mathematics?
I know that if we do what is right in the sight of the Lord then we will not have to worry about Saudi oil. It may be difficult at first, but I believe with all my heart that if we stand up for what is right God will bless us for it. I wish our leaders believed it too.
