Jobs Versus Net Jobs

U.S. companies have outsourced over 5 million manufacturing jobs to China. Each manufacturing job supports about three other jobs. This represents a job loss of about 20 million. We have about 13 million unemployed and 7 million underemployed. That adds up to 20 million. In their book, "Death by China," Peter Navarro and Greg Autry claim that if we had those jobs back from China, our unemployment rate would be about 5% and our budget would be in balance. In 2003, Warren Buffett recommended that we impose "balanced trade" by limiting imports from China to the amount that China imports from us. This would bring millions of our manufacturing jobs back. Unfortunately, there is no evidence that our government WANTS to bring our jobs back.

DoctorRoy, What sort of ill-mannered turd refers to Dr. Thomas Sowell as "Hey Sowell?" Do you have any clue as to who Thomas Sowell is and why he is important to so many of us?

capitalust, Hasn't Thomas Sowell given us enough to think about? I say, if Dr. Sowell says it's time to take a breather, then we take a breather and talk about baseball. If you are so narrow-minded that you must have a constant fix of politics, I suggest "The Thomas Sowell Reader." (2011) I always keep it handy in case I need a Sowell fix. On the other hand, if Thomas Sowell thinks that baseball is important, then, by God, baseball is important.
