They were selling sacrifices that were supposed to be one's own labor, and they were doing so inside the temple. The money changers were also fleecing the temple-goers, and were essentially stealing. I think that's right

Torque is best if you are towing. If you want to go fast, you need horsepower. I still really want to make 400 hp without having to deal with the EPA, smog inspections, and the like.
Maybe taxes were high because times were good. "Hey, economy is up, let's cash in on that and get some money." The primary driver of tax revenue is high income. With a high income comes more spending which means more jobs, which means more people paying taxes.
I believe that he craves the power. He will not give up that power easily, and he may run for governor of Illinois after his stay in the White House, or else go around on speaking tours telling everyone how he's still right and everything is someone else's fault.
Repealing tax cuts on couples making 250k? Well there goes all the mom and pop shops. If this goes through, expect to see a lot of independent gas stations close up, many smaller bars will charge more for drinks, family restaurants will go belly up, etc.
So let's put in a single percentage of income for everyone to pay, regardless of standing. No deductions, no loopholes. How about 15%? Sounds good to me. Or a federal sales tax of 4% with a 10% tariff?
The bailout was to prevent them from going into bankruptcy. Yeah, about that. And because of the bailout, the government had to recoup its money, so it bought out large shares and allowed their overpayed union buddies to do the same. Had they not accepted the bailout, they would be in the same position they were in. Bankruptcy. However, they would have no responsibility to appease the unions, since the contracts would be void. That would make for more money for say, R&D and good styling.
This is what happens when you give a hair stylist a tool chest and power tools and tell them to fix the pinging sound coming from under the hood. You end up with an engine on the ground and half the wiring melted, costing you $15,000 in repairs to an attempted fix that would cost $500 normally, if that. Coulda replaced a few spark plugs, retuned the ignition, and been out the door for maybe just $300, but noooo, they just thought that they had to replace the engine, so they brought out the cutting torch and burned away everything.
If Boeing's Everett plant moved, Washington State would almost immediately fall into a depression. That plant fuels the entire economy of Snohomish and northern King Counties, or the entire area between 20 and 50 miles north of Seattle. Entire freeways are built to get workers to that plant. Then there's Boeing Field just south of Seattle. Fewer jobs, and more of a maintenance ground than anything. But Boeing's headquarters moved to Chicago a few years back.

Except for the Barbary Pirates, and a myriad of attacks leading up to General Pershing's executing of 49 islamic terrorists. Look it up: for forty years after Pershing executed them using pigs' blood on the bullets and burying them in a pit filled with pig entrails there was not a single attack on Americans.
