I have not insulted him, just agree with many reports that his testimony was muddled, confused, unprepared, and it is apparent he is unqualified to be SecDef, because we need a strong leader in that important position, would you agree ? He may be ok to go have a beer with him, but when I heard him speak in the hearing, I knew this was not a man I want as SecDef. Again, I ask - are you happy with Hagel as SecDef ? Many are not ! ! No obfuscations or distractions, what is your answer to my question ?

The Senate's "advice and consent" role doesn't require it to rubber-stamp a presidential appointee for secretary of defense who senators believe would weaken America in this increasingly dangerous world.

Notwithstanding former Sen. Chuck Hagel's diminished view of the post -- "I won't be in a policymaking position" -- the secretary of defense is an exceedingly important position and must be filled with someone who understands the complexity and gravity of the threats we face.
