With a very few and welcome exceptions like Hillsdale, what Debra describes at UC is the environment at most colleges and universities. Most colleges and universities hire academic Phds whose sole accomplishment has been their Phd dissertation. They will spend the next thirty tenured years glorifying that accomplishment and precious few grow beyond that. The incest of marxist lies, PC imbicility, and racist anti-racist witch hunts has produced a flacid at best intellectual environment for parents to invest in for their brood.
Political activism has drawn the University of California into an academic death spiral. Too many professors believe their job is to "advance social justice" rather than teach the subject they were hired to teach. Groupthink has replaced lively debate. Institutions that were designed to stir intellectual curiosity aren't challenging young minds. They're churning out "ignorance."
