Obama is an egoist who cares only about himself. An egoist might bomb Iran if it could help him, no matter the consequences for others. An attack on Iran could help Obama by reversing his falling poll numbers, rallying the country behind him, and creating a crisis that could be exploited to his advantage. Ergo....
AMEN! Unfortunately for repeal, however, all politicians--Republicans as well as Democrats--love big government and high taxes. These provide plenty of money, pork, and power for them to play with. Republican politicians make a show of opposing big government and high taxes to win the votes of their base, but then happily roll over once the bills are passed. Yesterday, your brother, Rush, spent a long time favorably discussing an article in The American Spectator by Prof. Angelo M. Codevilla on how Republican Politicians cooperate with Democratic politicians and other liberals to form a ruling class that opposes the rest of us. I read the article, and it's right on.

The Bitter Fruit of Obamacare

Is there really hope for repeal of Obamacare and the other Obamalaws? Charles Krauthammer has a very depressing column in the Washington Post today saying the laws will be impossible to repeal. Add to that the fact that politicians of both parties love big governement and high taxes--these give them money, pork, and power to play with. I hope the Tea Parties can hold the feet of politicians to the fire and force them to give us back our freedom, but I'm not hopeful. Can anyone cheer me up?

When Did the Rules Change?

I suggest that the rules are changing because of the internet. People are much better informed--and motivated--about politics than they were. I'm 70 and didn't know much or care much about politics because I knew so little and felt so powerless. Now I know a lot and feel empowered--I established and administer an e-mail group of conservatives. I think that's why the townhalls last summer were so contentious. Politicians formerly went to the meetings and told baldfaced lies. The audience was so ignorant that they accepted what they were told. But watch the videos of last year's townhalls. Invariably the politician starts giving his fallacious talking points and the audience shouts him/her down. The politician looks and acts...

Like so many other religious colleges, ND has evolved into a nonsectarian institution. With Georgetown, it is Catholic in name only. However, students can find many colleges still guided by Catholic ideals, such as my alma mater, Villanova.

The Same Old Drill

Obama says his Stupak deal prevents federal funding of abortions. The catch is that the deal will fall to the first court challenge or be revoked later by Obama or a succeeding Democratic president. Obama says he's for nuclear power. The catch is that his administration will never approve a nuclear waste disposal method, so nuclear plants won't be built. Am I wrong to suspect a catch that will prevent drilling, that the drilling deal is yet another meaningless Obama promise?

Cut Spending Today To Save Tomorrow

An excellent, insightful piece from the usually perspicacious Mr. Blankley. I would add that Obama has obviously reached the same conclusions. Since he rammed through his health-care takeover and brought his campaign advisor back on board, he has been campaigning hard for the votes of the “15 percent to 30 percent (who) are quite concerned about the current state of the country but see no imminent crisis and think that with some substantial adjustments, Mr. Obama's efforts may end up being useful.” His strategy seems to be to completely ignore his strong opponents, keep his base from eroding, and win as many votes as he can from the middle to squeak out a majority and maintain power.
