Algebra in the 8th or 9th grade? I took in in 7th grade ('86). Kids really are getting dumbed down education these days.

I didn't take it until 9th grade (1966). My high school didn't offer calculus - our highest math class was called Trigonometry and Math Analysis - what our school today calls pre-calculus. In those days, they thought the students would learn calculus in college. What a concept! Of course, I also graduated before there was an AP program.

Same here. I don't recall any school public/private teaching calc in high school. We did have "new math" inflicted on us around 63 or so in grade school.
