Have to disagree with you. I think Charles made some good points. I believe the overall reason why Dr. Williams continues to write his columns is to wake people up. Also, there is no reason for all the name-calling. Everyone has a right to log on here an post their comments WITHOUT the harassment. One of the major complaints I hear from conservatives is that there is too much name-calling from the left (racist, prejudiced, etc.) But here you are perpetrating the very thing you are against. Your comments directed toward Charles were uncalled for. And, you could have used a more intelligent sounding phrase than "more stupider".

Thanks Dr. Williams. I have always said that about Blacks. We have set ourselves up to be taken for granted. In some sectors of the black community, it's almost criminal to be a Republican. You are seen as an "Uncle Tom". But a smart investor does not put all his money in one stock. Blacks need to be adequately represented in BOTH major political parties, just as Whites and Hispanics. I think that many Blacks are beginnning to understand this though.

The Financial Mess in the US and Europe

The problem here is that any candidate running for office that has the right solutions to solve our economic problems will never get elected. Any time you mention cutting some sort of benefit or entitlement, people get scared and don't want to vote for you. People say they want transparency and honesty in their elected officials, but when someone comes along who possesses those qualities, he is swiftly met with resistance. Too many people want to have their cake and eat it too. People want to hear the truth, but only when it supports their agenda...

Good point. It's like the "Teach a man how to fish" as opposed to "Give a man a fish"
If you were to conduct a simple poll on whether or not people trust the federal government, the vast majority of people (both lefties and righties) will give a resounding "NO!" So if this is the case, why do lefties keep wishing to pass policies that pump more and more $$$ into a government that they say they don't trust? So the lesson that I take from Dr Williams and from reading the posts from all of you that are more educated than I on this topic, is that Soc Sec was orignally good to go, but the government did not keep it's promise, and fleeced the system. And now has become a Ponzi scheme because it is on the road to bankruptcy. Am I on the right track?

I was thinking the same thing. It's hard to debate against people you agree with. It would be like Chris Matthews debating against Rachel Maddow!

Another 'Wake up, America!' column by the great Walter Williams. We might have been better off if college administrators had started falsifying test scores to help students pass, reference the ongoing scandal in grade schools in the Atlanta area. At least the curriculum standards would have remained high. But to water down the curriculum is just plain assinine. No wonder the US is only 32nd in math and 17th in reading. Additionally, people in many of those other industrialized nations (the ones beating us) are required to learn English in addition to their native languages. And many of them can write (in English) better than Americans. Just plain sad...

Mr. Williams, you exude awesomeness at its awesomenessest! You have a way of articulating a point like no other. Please continue to wake us up. You will be scorned with the usual "Uncle Tom" comments by some. But not all black folks see you in that way. Thank you.
