The Republican Obsession

The U.S. fought wars in Iraq to free Kuwait and protect Saudi Arabia. Iraq posed no threat to Israel. The only thing Israel got out of it was scud missiles falling on its civilians during the first gulf war. But, you know, you go ahead and blame the Jews. I mean, what the heck, why not? Everyone else does it.

A Morally-Confused Marine

Ironically, Dennis, I think the problem here is the Captain's belief in moral absolutes - the desire to find and cling to categorical imperatives, no matter how ridiculous the conclusions to which they lead. I say it's ironic because a belief in moral absolutism is usually the preferred philosophy of the right, yourself included. To your credit, though, you also say that "context is everything." The latter statement is far more true than any moral absolute. A supposed moral absolute like "Thou shalt not murder," only makes sense because it leaves open the question of what is a murder and what is a justified killing. In other words, it is not a moral absolute at all. There are no categorical imperatives. Sorry about that.

"there were more mentions of Israel, 178, than of Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, Palestine and Palestinians, North Korea, Syria, Pakistan, Egypt, China, NATO, Libya, Bahrain, Somalia, al-Qaida, Mali, Jordan, Turkey, Japan and South Korea combined." And, of course, Mr. Buchanan has written more columns fulminating against Israel than on all of those other subjects combined. So if the so-called Israeli lobby is responsible for Congress's focus on Israel, what accounts for Mr. Buchanan's obsession with bashing Israel?
Like promises of spending cuts later in exchange for tax increases now, promises of border enforcement later in exchange for amnesty now can be summed up in one simple phrase: "Really, Charlie Brown, I won't pull the football away this time."
Obama models himself after Lincoln? Well, Lincoln's election DID spark a civil war which left hundreds of thousands dead and half of the country in smoking ruins, so Obama has a ways to go before he can say he is the MOST divisive President ever. But he sure is trying.

Exactly right. The Mad Mullahs of Iran attack the U.S. in every place and in every way they can. Since they can't reach us with a direct military assault, they use their puppet terrorist organizations. They are the force behind the Taliban in Afghanistan and al Qaeda in Iraq. And once they have their nukes, one of those nukes will be stowed in the hold of a tanker ship and steam into New York's harbor. I don't have much hope for what happens on that day, but I guess I could hope that JustMC gets to witness the outcome in person.

Benghazi-gate – Obama Knew

If the Obama administration had been in office in 1939 it would have announced that the Nazi attack on Poland was the result of a spontaneous and isolated protest against a rumor that someone had burned a copy of Mein Kampf. God only knows what they would have said about Krystalnacht. Maybe Obama would have given the SS a lecture about religious tolerance.
I wonder why a few hundred hippies camped in a park in New York represents a national movement speaking for 99% of Americans, but a thousand times that number of angry Muslims shouting “Death to America” represents a few isolated extremists who are in no way representative of the peace-loving religion of Islam.

Has Obama Called Bibi's Bluff?

I do not understand the use of the word "war" here. Iran has been at war with the United States for the last 35 years, ever since they invaded our embassy (soverign American soil) during the Carter Administration. They lack the capacity to strike at America itself, but they have consistently used terror tactics through their puppets (like Syria and Hamas) to strike at Americans abroad and American allies like Israel. They are building nuclear weapons, and they tell us that their goal is to wipe Israel off the map. Does anyone think that once the "Little Satan" has been obliterated they will give up their goal of attacking the "Great Satan"? Nobody is talking about sending ground forces into Iran, but an air strike is utterly justified.
Obama predicted that without his stimulus, the unemployment rate today would by 6.0% It's the only thing he ever said that I think was right.
