Karl Rove Vs. the 'Far Right'

I suppose non of the elderly in your family get SS checks? Those checks come directly from the Feds. So you would have your elderly banned from voting? What about our disabled vets? Many wealthy people take their SS checks and pay their liquor bills with them, while the poor elderly have nothing else to live on.

Marie150--"why can't children take care of their elderly parents?" that is not an unreasonable question-I grew up in the 40s/50s on a Farm (hard-scrabble type) in WV; during many of these years my parents had at least ONE Grandparent (SOMETIMES 2) usually for rotating 3 or 4 month periods--It was, to be very kind, AN EXPERIENCE. I made a promise to myself that "IT" didn't have to be that way--Well, "IT" isn't!! Myn Wife and I own our own House (2 actually), but depending upon anyone (Kids/Step Kids) would be almost out of the question, LOGISTICALLY, if for no other reason. The times, they are a'changin, eh, what?

Emilie3-"It happens in the nicest families"--YEAH! OK! But not multiple times with multiple partners! Then we got a PROBLEM?

gtanv, please explain how my in-laws and my grandparents did it.

Neither one required any Federal help in their retirements; and receiving SS checks is NOT something you're allowed to opt out of, EVER. My MIL is in a nursing home, but has enough saved that she could live there for nearly a decade. She will be 97 this year.

Explain how this was and is possible.

Social Security is a savings account...............of sorts....... why can't children take care of their elderly parents? People should save for their own retirements and the government should stop causing inflation by printing money they do not have. IT IS AN UNETHICAL and UNDERHANDED TAX.

Once again why are we letting stoooopid politicians and government bureaucrats ruin our lives?

Chris, those old people didn't have an option...their money was confisacted through soc sec taxes. Yes, everyone should do more on their own --soc sec is not a living --- but that money paid in is owed back out, and is not a "handout", it's a return on a promise.

None of your "what if" scenarios justify our government spending $11 for every $7 it takes in. Read the Constitution and try to find the article where Charity is included in the governments duties. Newsflash, it ain't there. Taking money from hard working citizens by force (IRS) and then spending that money based on political motivations is not charity either. It's cronyism and it's destroying this nation. For everyone of your possible tragedies there is a story of common people seeing a need in their community and meeting that need out of their own generosity, no government program or government spending required.

How long are you going to live? How much in retirement savings do you need? What if you live 10 years longer than you expected? What if you have to take in grandchildren because their parents are killed in an accident?

Are you sure some health or other catastrophe is not going to wipe out your savings? And if you do find yourself without enough money at age 86, what sort of job do you think you'll be able to get, let alone do?

You, like the rest of us, live in a precarious world, and I'd say your hubris could get you into a lot of trouble.

Those poor, poor old people. Tell me again why they're old and didn't save for their own retirement?

that poor, poor young pregnant girl. Tell me again why her parents didn't teach her that sex causes babies?

It's not "society" or the government that needs to handle these issues. further, they're EXPRESSLY FORBIDDEN from doing anything that's not specifically authorized in the founding document.

Also your description of how some girls get pregnant is vulgar. What if a girl in your family was seduced by her boyfriend who is not a deadbeat, just too young to know better? It happens in the nicest families. She might want an abortion, even if you are against it, as I am.
If I were launching a new conservative venture, the last venue I'd choose for the announcement would be the New York Times. Karl Rove has gone to the Times to announce that he has created a new "conservative" entity "to recruit seasoned candidates and protect Senate incumbents from challenges by far-right conservatives and Tea Party enthusiasts."

Rove argues that Republican fortunes have been ruined by "far-right conservatives," but he's shamelessly calling this entity the "Conservative Victory Project." Yes, and I could call myself Ray Lewis, but it doesn't make it so.

Whaddaya know? The liberal Democrats at the Times love this idea....
