"If this healthcare plan is so great...
...why are members of Congress exempt from it?"

Members of Congress receive health benefits under the same plans available to other federal employees. Under Obama's plan you and congressmen could keep your/their current coverage. I haven't heard that they are exempt.

Just Google "congress health benefits."
"Obama has already hinted that some people will be denied care under his plan (he has tried to spin his way out of the comments, but he hasn't succeeded). That alone should scare us. Do we want to give the government the power to decide who gets care and who does not?" Ken

The current system routinely denies care. That is what managed health care does to reduce costs.

My father had cancer and had to fight to get all of his treatments paid for. They were constantly trying to push one cost or another on to him. And he had a 'Cadillac' plan at the time. The system nears an overhaul. The private system needs oversight, reform, and better regulation.
...the ones at work renting cars for personal use on the companies dime, putting down false hours, and having their internet and cable paid for by he company are hardcore Conservatives.

"Where did you hear the stats on TORT reform? Did you sneak into a Trial Lawyers Convention?" LC

My numbers are from an interview on NPR. I can't recall who stated them so I too take them with a grain of salt.

You still are making claims with NO numbers or proof to back you up.

"How do we know the government won't make this kind of mess with healthcare?" Ken

Every system has waste, fraud, abuse and incompetence. Yet we do rely on the government to do a reasonable good job protecting us from crime and fire. Maintaining clean drinking water. Educating our children, etc.

Government health care won't be flawless to be sure but it does solve some problems in the current system.

I see as much if...
So Ahenobarbus, you think collecting taxes for public education is wrong? How about for the Fire department?
TORT reform - I challenge you to give me an actual amount of savings Tort Reform would have on the price of health care.

I've heard that of the entire amount spent on health care each year less than 1% is due to the legal system. Therefore 1% savings on a $1,000.00 a year policy, if you were to completely get rid of legal costs, would save you $10.00.

And "What would Jesus Do?" is an appropriate question for those who believe.

An open market for the purchase of health insurance - We have it. I went to my brother who is an insurance agent to get a private health care policy. My employee doesn't offer or help with insurance. My brother emailed me a spreadsheet with about 30 choices. That was from just his office....
"Jesus would tell me quite frankly that helping the poor is an obligation, but that robbing my neighbor to help the poor is theft. He would frankly condemn the approach."

So Jesus would condemn the collection of taxes to pay for education as well?
"Someone earning $40K does not eat as much steak as somone earning $80K nor do they live in as nice a house. Why should they have the same level of healthcare?" Tinsldr2

Whether you have steak or hamburger tonight you will still be fed and be alive the next day.

The level of health care could determine survival, life or death. You can't even begin to compare the two.

All of you who are Christian just need to ask yourselves one simple question; What would Jesus do? Would Jesus consider denying treatment to a sick man because it costs too much? It's really very simple.
Oh, you're right David. I agree with you now. Anyone without financial resources should be left to die and/or suffer. We are Americans and we only are concerned with our own well being. We have no responsibility to each other.

You'll never understand my point of view because you're selfish and heartless. Your version of America would be hell on earth.
"You take a young person with a HSA and catastrophic coverage paying into his HSA every month and paying for an inexpensive insurance policy and assume no major problems for several decades, which is statistically viable, he can have a large account to do with as he pleases when he retires."

Or he can die bankrupt of some odd, unforeseen illness. You're comments are truly senseless. These people will become a burden to all systems medical and financial when they get sick.
