The President and Congress are our elected representatives, not our rulers. Based on your screen name I assume you would not have felt this way if the policies being questioned had bben out forth by President George Bush or Speaker Gingrich. Though you will probably never understand this, it is not the government's job to tell me what is best for me or my family. As an adult, that is my job.

Having worked in the private sector as an analyst of medical claims data, I could not agree more with Mr. Sowell's comments about insurance, risk and government intrusion.

Dr. Sowell, once again you have hit the nail on the head. Everyone should be judged based on their actions, not their words. I would point out that while HR 3200 does not go into effect until 2013, the income surcharges go into effect on 2011. Also, these surcharges go into the "Health Care Choices Trust Fund" which I am sure will be just as protecte as have been the Social Security and Medicare Trust Funds. This plan is not about uninsured Americans but about more government power and control over our lives.

The policies Mr. Phillips suggests would reform the purchase of health insurance. What HR 3200 is offering is a total change in the delivery of health care under the guise of health insurance reform. No matter what anyone says, America has the best health care in the world. Until health insurance is able to be purchased like life insurance, car insurance or any other type of insurance, it will never be competitive and affordable. Liberals do not want to reform health insurance, they want to create a new entitlement and increase their power to increase their voting block. How can any thinking person support Iran over Israel? I have never understood how Jewish Americans can support liberal politicans (ie Democrats) and their pro-Palestine anti-Israel position. I hope that Israel does not cave to pressure from Obama and that he is forced, for once, to bear the consequences of his choices. I have always been and proudly remain a strong supporter of Israel.

I was brought up to believe that a person should be evaluated (not judged) based on their actions, not the color of their skin. Until that is how everyone feels, we cannot move forward in this country, I appreciate your article and count you as a true follower of Dr. King, who waited for a day when all would be judged by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. I too wait for that day.

You have quickly become my daily must read, second only to Thomas Sowell, which I assure coming from me s high praise. We do not get your oolumn in our local paper, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. Please do what you can to get them to add you to our list of syndicated columnists.

Since my respresentative & senators won' take the time to meet with their constiuents, why should I expect them to read bills? I have read HR 3200 and intend to read the Senate bill today and then make it my mission to educate everyone I know about the dangers of this bill. Since my elected officials cannot do their jobs, I intend to do it for them.

Anyone who has read Victor Gold's excellent book 'Liberwocky: What Liberals Say and What They Really Mean' would not be shocked by the hypociscy coming from the Obama Administration. It is clearly understood based on the following 2 definitions in this book:
"Activist - A politically-concerned citizen given to the vigorous pursuit of Liberal causes (e.g., animal-rights activist)"
"Extremist - A politically-concerned citizen given to the vigorous pursuit of Conservative causes (e.g., gun-rights extremist)"
