Serious About Syria?

Our standing army has not been misused, yet. But we need it nonetheless to protect and defend this country. Syria, while in trouble and a regional threat, is not the United States. I've supported and opposed wars, and usually was right about the outcome.. Unfortunately, once involved, we will have to fight the war. Lately, that's not been a very good idea.

How can you "work around" not being able to read? I am appalled to learn that kids cannot read cursive. Not everything will be printed on a computer -- especially edits to texts which are created in the workplace. Those are done by hand and the entry-level job of "administrative assistant" (formerly secretary) needs to be able to read them -- and at a higher level than high school freshman. Is it any wonder we have a generation of illiterates on our hands? It might be two!!

What is Islam?

I am disappointed in Jeff. While this is a peaceful view of Islam and its future, it is unsupported in today's world. Moderate Islam must speak out against the violent extremists, frequently and very loudly. Only by doing so will they bring these vicious people to heel and protect their religion from extinction.

Dear Hawker 1: Usually poor spelling is merely that -- but this time it is so far from reality that it is nigh onto impossible to extract. To lessen the impact on other readers, Hawker 1 likely meant, "Coup D'Etat," a French phrase meaning cut (coup) the (d') [head of] state (etat).
The libs seem to think that if the conversation doesn't start with a mea culpa and end with a fat check it isn't worthwhile or productive.

Dear Nikko: If your response is not tongue-in-cheek, you need a history lesson, a neurology lesson, and many, many civics lessons to straighten out your view. I refuse to pander to the race-baiters or race-excusers. The only difference is in the amount of time the parents prep the child for success -- beginning at birth.
