I have no love or loyalty to employer-based group insurance, but one thing I do know is that by pooling groups of people together, an insurer can insure a higher risk person than it can an individual on an individual plan. It is harder to qualify for health insurance as an individual and anyone who has applied with a recent injury or illness on record knows that they will be rejected. Not the case with a group. So the illogical tie to employer provided exists, but there is also that major advantage. Does anyone have any alternatives?
