The other part of the equation is reckless spending by those who are supposed to take care of our country's checkbook. As one who did that for our family for years (most of them very lean years) I know what it takes (and will take) for our country to become solvent again -- stop spending. Until our representatives stop spending money recklessly I will continue to take what money I can, which is actually getting back some of the money that government.has taken from me in the first place. That almost (or perhaps more than?) half the country pays no taxes at all means that I pay more than my "fair share". Remember the liberal mantra "equal pay for equal work"? Why does that not apply here?.

President Obama's second inaugural address will be full of lofty sentiments and promises to move us forward. But I'd like to suggest that instead of eloquent and uplifting rhetoric, the president do something unexpected and brave. What if he actually spoke frankly to the American people about the sacrifices that are needed from all of us if we are to secure our future and salvage our character?
