As the wife of a former military man (over 20 years) I see that nothing has changed. Whenever the leaders of our country get us into deficits over our heads they lookk to military pay as the first place to "save" money. Why is it that they don't go after welfare recipients? If what I have read is true, it takes around $50,000 in gross pay to equal what welfare recipients get for doing nothing. An don't forget, some of our military members are already so poorly paid that they are eligible for food stamps. We need to put welfare recipients to work in order to be eligible to taxpayers money. They should also have take a drug test, like most people have to do in order to get a job. If they flunk the test they don't get money.

When I was stationed in Alaska, back in the early '90's, we had this discussion. There was a Lt.Col., lived on base, four teen children, and THEY qualified for food stamps! For those of you that have never been part of the military,we pay all taxes on what we EARN, and boy do we earn it. We get assistance on food and housing (if we live off base) but it is on a sliding scale. Those unionized civilians, they really had it made as far as benefits and everything else.

And yes you receive food stamps, welfare, and a few other things, you should be subject to RANDOM, NO NOTICE, drug tests. You get caught trading your benefits, you lose them?

Liberals dont like the military cause they have "Assault Weapons". 60's hippies still think they are baby killers.

Never killed babies. They are very small and some of them can move quickly. I only killed adults who were armed...

It's a testament to the sickness that is liberalism that someone like kerry who made such false claims gets to be a senator and now secstate when he should have been imprisoned for it. The very idea that these morons in the senate approved that POS is disgusting.

Eleanor--you should add to that list of welfare recipients companies that are feeding at our federal trough--G.E., BoA, Goldman Sachs, Solyndra, Light Squared, Boeing, etc... These guys get freebees and passes on Taxes that small business folks could only dream about. And they return the favor to their ever so helpful representatives with campaign contributions.

Why do you include Goldman Sachs and BofA with companies that actually make a product the DOD uses. Also, I guess you forgot that the unions who jack up the labor costs to these companies, actually have better benefits than active military and retirees. Health care for these union pensions is much more enclusive than the military retirees'. Eyeglasses and dental care are included in these union packages and are not in the military retirees.

Well he doesn't and neither does his outgoing defense secretary:

Just days before he leaves office, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is recommending military pay be limited, effectively decreasing troop salaries next year.

Panetta will recommend to Congress that military salaries be limited to a 1% increase in 2014. The Pentagon has calculated that the Labor Department's 2014 Employment Cost Index is expected to be above 1% but wants to still cut back on pay because of "budget uncertainties," a department official told CNN. In 2013, a 1.7% increase was approved, based on the index,...
