I heard a clip of McCain stating that the bill (immigration reform) would have to "compromise" between the "business" and "labor" sides of the issue. Hey John! How about the taxpayers??? Neither business nor labor wants to curb illegal immigration. Business thinks that cheap labor, funded and supported by taxpayer money is a great thing. Labor sees the influx of illegal aliens as a a great boon to the Dem party and hence to labor unions, again at taxpayer expense. Hey dummies! Just secure the freakin' border! Start treating illegals as law breakers and we can discuss the rest of the issues after that.

When you consider that the primary job of any politician is reelection, the results are not surprising; legislation to provide "freebies" to the electorate and confiscatory taxation on the "rich" and disastrous budget deficits to pay for it. Two things would greatly improve our political, social and economic situations. 1. Disenfranchise all non-taxpayers. 2. Term limits for all elected offices.
