It was interesting because the Media guy (John Karl from ABC) asked the Newtown families what they felt about people saying that Obama is "using them". They of course really believe that background checks would have prevented their tragedy, and that this is not about politics. It is a shame they went this direction. I hate to be critical of people who have suffered so much, but when you are acting without wisdom, and so publicly, it deludes their experience for me. Not because I disagree with their politics, but their reasoning. They can't be serious if they think that BC's would have kept Lanza out of Sandy Hook.

Much of the drama has already dissipated; most of these amendments will fail.  The Toomey/Manchin bipartisan compromise appears to be dead in the water, with Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) pounding home the final legislative nails earlier today.
