i believe americans re-elected obama because so many, especially those who voted for him the second time around, are closet racists. they were thinking things like, "hey, he did a pretty good job for a colored guy", and, "we cannot judge him by his results, he is doing the best he can", and, "so what if he is totally incompetent, you can't expect a colored guy to perform to a high standard of competency". in other words, the people who voted for obama made excuses for his incompetent performance because he was colored". the real racist were those who voted FOR obama despite the incompetency displayed in his first four years in office.

I think it was more due to people not showing up at the polls.

You are exactly right IMO!

Perhaps some of what you say is true, but I think the real reason Obama won a second term was that the GOP picked the one man in America less popular with the GOP rank and file than McCain. The American people were given a choice between Obama and Obama-lite. The Democrats could be enthusiastic about Obama, but virtually no one could be enthusiastic about Willard.

No, many of us first thought no on Romney but then heard his message - a man of experience and values. Obama won through out and out fraud and people who only listen to a mellifluous voice and sound bites due to our non-educational system and the illegals who come for freebies and bring very little of value with them for America, and the fact that we are spoiled and like lobsters in cold water on the stove with the heat slowly but surely increasing over the last 40 years of Demos in power. Support those who want term limits! and definitely get Obama and friends out of America's government before it really is too late and we are cooked!

CR -- the GOP will never win elections until they admit that they keep picking bad candidates. I suspect that the last time many people could vote GOP without holding their nose was when they voted for Reagan. Basically, that was a generation ago. Since then, the GOP establishment has been foisting off ever-more liberal candidates onto the party base. Until that cycle is broken, the GOP hasn't a chance.

Just remember, one can always win with 147% of the voters, thugs standing watch to make sure it all goes well, supporters making sure the undecided know how to vote, computers selecting the "proper" selection and not an unwise choice, and bussing voters wherever needed.

Corbett-I hate to tell you, but you're beating your head against the wall! I am more closely related to "Libertarian" than I am to "Republican" but I would NEVER vote for Ron Paul regardless of his party label. You and I know why you didn't even consider a vote for a repub this year. My Mother, if alive, would have felt the same way. BOTH OF YOU ARE DEAD WRONG!

Almost a decade ago, Europeans and many progressive Americans were lamenting how the United States was going to miss out on the 21st-century paradigm symbolized by the robust European Union. Neanderthal Americans were importing ever more oil while waging a costly "war on terror" and fighting two conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our budget deficit in 2003 hit $374 billion.

The EU avoided foreign conflicts and embraced soft power. Its declining military budgets and centralized transnational government ensured that it could address global warming and fund ever-expanding entitlements. Even the poorer Mediterranean nations reached new heights of prosperity. The Greek economy...
