Repaying debt quickly is not the issue. Preventing huge increases and actualy addressing that debt is the more pressing issue. A trillion is about 3,240 per person in the US. Just as growing credit card debt can be oppressive, the interest charge on a trillion is even more oppressive as a half percent annually is 5 billion. With a 16 trillion debt and growing the interest is about 20 dollars a month per person (not family) for every half-percent.
