It would do most of the Kervorkian-haters good to spend time with someone who truly DOES want to end their life...better still if that person was a loved one, trapped by medical circumstances in a body and a life they want no part of.

My father was a hale and hearty man for most of his life, enjoying hunting, fishing and spending as much time as possible in nature. He also enjoyed reading, flying and traveling. in 1998, at the age of 68, he had a crippling stroke that left him permanently paralyzed on his left side, the ability to control his bladder and bowels and with visual problems that made reading or even just watchinmg TV or a movie a a difficult ordeal. He lost any semblance of independence, along with the dignity of...

Demasculation of America's Boys

Just a personal anecdote, reflecting a few changes in society, gender roles, etc...

A few years ago, I flew into New York for a job interview. I arrived suffering from a severe cold, and utterly exhausted. As I made my way into the city by public transport, I was confronted by a two-story stairway from subway to street level. I was juggling two suitcases and a breifcase, and I stood staring up that seeming-endless stairway, wondering how I could possibly get myself up to the top. A woman in the passing crowd reached out and grabbed my suitcase and said, "Come on. I got this." I followed her, panting and coughing, up the stairway. When we reached the top, she turned to me, put my suitcase down beside me and said, "I just...

I agree that securing our nation's military and financial information and operations must be a priority, but much of the danger lies in the disruption of data and operation of private concerns, such as our utility networks. These concerns will only be taken seriously once a few sucessful attacks take place, sadly. Most experts agree that far more could be done to secure civilian and corporate data, with little comparative cost, if the leaders of industries and entities at risk were simply more aware of the dangers, and the solutions.

Mr. Sullum, the difference is that the laws of this country hold that the termination of the life of an unborn fetus is not, by defininition, murder, but that the ternination of the life of an adult male is. Change the law, then, if this makes you uncomfortable...but permitting the use of the 'Necessity Defense' would place our legal system on a far more slippery slope than the legal rulings involving abortion itself.
Moreover, our legal system does not recognize vigilanteism, nor should it. None of us are allowed to be laws unto ourselves; that way lies legal madness.
I will make only two observations before the trolls and haters descend on this board:
Anthropologically, mankind has tried many forms of marriage; two men, one woman: One man, several women; two or more of each gender. All have worked to at least the extent that the current societal norm (one woman, one man) has...not particularly well, given the divorce rate, but better than nothing. And incidentally, children seem to fare equally well in them all.
I cannot believe that allowing two people of the same sex to marry will in any way diminish the validity or strength my own mixed-sex marriage.
Now, have at it, folks...I'm outta here!

I'm neither from California. nor a Liberal, and I nevertheless find myself wondering...why would a person of such moral rectitude and devoutly Christian as you represent yourself to be watching "Nurse Jackie' in the first place?
As one of the 'lib' posters you took such pride in bashing pointed out...Showtime is a premium channel, and is only available to those who knowingly, deliberately, choose to pay for and watch it. So...let me see if I understand your moral stance...you choose to pay for Showtime (and lend your financial support to the production of the filth they produce)solely for the purpose of being intelligently informed (and outraged) by what you watch? Would it not make more sense to simply deprive Showtime of your...
Yes, Mr. Frank and Weiner have asked that some of the restrictions on loans for condos be lessened, but they hardly, (as Mr. Noichols implies) demanded a return to the good old days of "liar loans." The new regulations would make it impossible to obtain a Fannie-Freddie Loan unless 71% of the condos are already sold. They also can't approve loans if more than 10% of the condos are in the name of one owner (makes you wonder how they'd handle condos with fewer than ten units, no?) The new regs also prevent loans to purchase a unit if more than 30% of the current owners are behind on their association dues, making due diligence a legal and financial nightmare for would-be buyers, mortgage companies and owners associations all at once. ...
