The Atheist Response to Sandy Hook

Atheism is a lack of active faith, not the affirmative belief that god does not exist. An atheist could believe in life after death if you could show proof. There are conservative and libertarian atheists as well as atheist gun owners. Equating atheism with liberalism is lazy and dishonest. Frankly, I find some of the most objectionable liberals to be ones who use their faith as a tool to evade scrutiny. Finally, the atheist belief that "your child is at peace" is more comforting than the Christian belief that "you raised your child in the wrong faith so he will burn in hell".

That is not true. Atheists say there is no God.

A lack of active faith is not the same thing as atheism. A lack of active faith is just a lack of active faith. A person that admits they do not know and they are too lazy to find out.

An atheist is a person that says they "know" that there is no God. They are silly people.

Atheists say it is okay for them to know for sure that God is not real.

It is not okay for believers to say that they KNOW God is real.

Then there is SATAN that KNOWS God and hates God.

sata comes from the Hebrew word meaning enemy.

You could not be more wrong about God. Children are not judged. Children seldom reject God unless they are abused. God does not judge people that have never heard of Christ in the same way that He judges those that have heard the Good News and have rejected His provision for salvation. God is not able to save those that will not knock on the door to His kingdom. Read the Bible and see God for yourself. And don't blame Him for the bad things that humans do.

And God is not a tyrant that enjoys sending people to eternity without Him. God longs for a relationship with every person on this planet. He is always by our side, ready and waiting for us to walk with Him. To follow Him.

Without "proof" does an atheist believe in God's existence? No. It's not a matter of indifferent lack of belief.

Atheism and "liberalism", aka Progressivism, are equated because the atheist denies the existence of God, by whom Natural Law is given and forms the basis for our individual rights acknowledged by the Declaration of Independence and contemplated in the Bill of Rights.

Natural law is law based upon nature as opposed to positive law which is based upon human decree. Natural law is supported by what works as opposed to what he want to work, e.g. genetic inheritance (natural) versus lysenkoism (positive). Progressives supported the latter but the former won because it was consistent with nature.
An adherence to natural law means you are willing to change as you learn more.

The Bill of Rights doesn't contemplate our rights, it recognizes them. The question is never where do we get our rights but where does the state get its powers. Progressives see the state as bearing collective power by default. Conservatives and libertarians, including atheists, believe the state has only what powers we give.

you may try to sound intellectual, but in the process, as all non-believers do, you ignore the one real sound truth which is "faith"...having none, you make no sense to those who have might as well be spitting in the wind. Nature law comes from God. Can you get anyone to agree on your so-called "positive law?" Laughable...
Last week the New York Times published an opinion piece that offered atheism's response to the evil/tragedy in which 20 children and six adults were murdered at the Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut.

What prompted Susan Jacoby to write her piece was a colleague telling her that atheism "has nothing to offer when people are suffering."

She wrote the piece, "The Blessings of Atheism" ("It is Here and It is Now!" screams the subhead) to prove her colleague wrong by offering a consoling atheist alternative to religion's consoling belief in an afterlife. Atheists cannot believe that there is any...
