Bonfire of the Insanities
The Tax Man Cometh 2010 edition
Re: Post Office, roads, Fire Dept, police? Certainly Tish and her husband (perhaps a strange word to you), buy stamps for postage, pay gasoline taxes, local property taxes (at least as part of rent), local and state sales taxes , and various other levees.
I don't often respond to Leftist posters like yourself, but I feel I must defend those who are not in the upper income brackets, but who are also taking care of themselves without sucking on the public teat.
God bless real Americans who make their own way through the world, and don't expect Govt to extract treasure from the hard...

Liberalism: Rebellion Disguised as Compassion
I absolutely agree with your additional suggestions for Alice'a studies. I just thought she should begin with some of the basics. I'm afraid that at this point in her life, she might agree with Sanger, and of course she would see the "Great Society" programs as the best of leftist thinking. Excellent post, my fellow Georgian!
John:
I agree that we should be as gentle as possible with the misguided, for that is what they are. I apologize to Alice for using the address "idiot", for she is probably reasonably intelligent, or she would not be reading this site. Not all of us are fortunate enough to have had a solid, rational education, from childhood through grad school. Let's just try to educate, and critisze fairly, those...
Liberalism: Rebellion Disguised as Compassion
Alice, I am sure your heart is in the right place - what you need to do over the next few years, to make your feelings towards your goals for our society effective, is to read history, especially the results of past leftist governments (Hitler - yes, leftist! - National Social Worker's Party), study history, study economics (I suggest Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations", if you can get through it), and some political philosophy (I suggest F.A. Hayek's "Road to Serfdom").
Oh, the naivete' and narrow-mindedness of the liberlally educated young! Broaden your mind!
Liberalism: Rebellion Disguised as Compassion
8) OK, the big 'A'. This is impossible to discuss with a Left/liberal, because ya'll don't have the mental or emotional honesty/integrity to admit that this is the intetional killing of an individual human being. What'd you think, the fetus would turn out to be a fish, or a squirrel? Your body? What about the...
Liberalism: Rebellion Disguised as Compassion
4) When I was a boy and young man, I was poor by today's standards - I bet you had air conditionag as a kid, and a car by the time you were 20! My grandfather was killed when my father was 6 yrs old (1921), and he had to hunt and fish for food. Don't tell us about poverty -you don't know what it is. BTW, the bottom 20% of Brittons are poorer than ALL poor Americans!
5) As for vochers, look up results in D.C., Milwaukee, and any parochial school in any major inner city! Try some facts,...
Liberalism: Rebellion Disguised as Compassion
Here are some points:
1) CBO must vet the bill as it is written - they're not allowed to take into account any reality of what will really happen. In the case of the HC proposals, the bill uses 10 years of tax increases vs. 6 years of new HC spending (I wish my creditors and the IRS would let me do something like that!) Thus the phantom "savings". HA!
2) Three issues here: a) the deficit this year is about 50% higher than W's last year. B) Iraq and the Afghan wars - Saddam was the most dangerous and BLOODTHIRSTY man in the Mid East - he DID have WMD,...
What's Arabic for "You're No Atticus Finch"?
BTW, I goofed a while ago - it was John J Pershing who chased Pancho Villa in to Mexico. And Pancho was a general in the Mex revolutionary forces, but also a murderer, theif, counterfieter, and all around bandit.
To you Libs - try to learn facts and history before you attemmp to argue with intelligent, educated conservatives. Otherwise, go back to your knitting, or whatever it that you're good at, 'cause you sure can't carry an inteligent converstion on the most important issue of our time - the future of Western Civilization. It's not only about liberty in the USA. But we have to save the USA as the Founders envisioned, before we can help the West to turn...
