I am very uncomfortable with abortion. Actually, I am pretty much against it unless it is in very special circumstances. This is my very personal ethical and moral position, not a political position. Among all the hypocrisies of the Republican message perhaps the worst one is how they portray themselves as "pro life" before birth, but are happy to abandon everyone to fight for themselves just immediately afterwards. Life does not end at birth. Health care, social security, education, old age care are all fundamental pillars of a fair society that looks after its citizens and gives them equal opportunities towards achieving the American Dream.

But the Republicans choose to ignore this, aiming instead to dismantle the social compact and to turn America into a third-world banana republic where a small cadre of privileged elites will rule over a mass of impoverished citizens reduced to servitude, fighting for themselves in a dystopic "wild west" without any hopes of ever improving their condition.

For these reasons, despite my position on abortion I am a proud progressive liberal and I could never, ever vote for the Republican party.
