The Obama administration's explanation that they "couldn’t come up with a “reasonable” argument for limiting marriage to a man and a woman" provides yet another example that they do not respect the instutions they occupy. Accepted at face value, the explanation is a conspicuous admission of intellectual impotence, or an incompetence that is well below second year law student's, or even well-read non-lawyers. On this point, any self-respecting lawyer upon reaching such a brain freeze would be bound ethically to turn the client over to another lawyer. An ethical lawyer would resign. Nancy Pelosi's recent drone saying unemployment payments create jobs shows the main falacy in the Democrats' policy of spending: that demand alone benefits the economy. Sure, the unemployed's immediate spending of their welfare checks helps landlords and grocery stores, (and casinos and strip clubs) but that does not create jobs. And as soon as the welfare stops, so does the spending; and, the businesses fall. Such a one-dimensional approach fully falls short of the famous liberal intellectual brilliance. There's the the well-known Thatcher phrase "sooner or later you run out of other people's money." But, more importantly, it's like the heroin pusher telling the addict "have some more, you'll feel better." Demand side economics...
