Why should we taxpayers pay to fix the monument? The GOP is all about small government so isnt the park service a waste of money? This article is so hypocritical. She is complaining the monument isnt fixed but yet her next piece will probably complain about govt. spending.

Not surprising from someone who probably wants to erase the Founders from our memories.

Weimaraner - you're barking up the wrong tree (or monument) here.

Thanks, though, for purporting to know what "the GOP is all about." And you have evidence that the GOP has argued that the pre-eminent symbols of America's greatness, like the Washington Monument, should be allowed to crumble into disrepair.

Go ahead and provide evidence of that "GOP position," please. Standing by....

Actually he's right. There is nothing in the constitution allowing the federal government to spend money on parks or monuments. If I'm wrong, show me the specific text that says it can do so.
The political parties throw a lot of glitz at us with their made-for-TV spectaculars, which we call conventions.

But the bottom line defining the choice facing Americans this year is stark and clear, and these conventions provide no new insights or information.

If you think we’re struggling because we don’t have enough government, then the Democrats are the party for you. If you think the point of government is to protect individual freedom, and the problem is it has gone way beyond that, then Republicans are the party for you.
