At least if I resist, I have a chance. In fact, studies have shown that people who resist are killed or injured at lower rates than those that submit to the criminal.

That's a silly "what if" game. What if by his not resisting, someone had been injured or killed? It cuts both ways. That's why you can't play the "what if" game.
