I live in LA. The space shuttle Endeavor did a last flight over my city. Wow. Wish everyone could have seen it. It was a BIG deal around here. The home of much of the building of rockets. The human ingenuity it took to make such space flight happen, boggles my mind. Just the use of my iPhone, or seeing medical technology helps me believe in that Star Trek future where all humans have become cooperative and overcome differences to ally in human progress. Most of the people here are an example of who lacks the bravery or the smarts to participate in such a future. But who benefit from a great deal of it anyway. A world without gay people isn't in the plan, obviously. Less bigoted, stupid and cowardly people would be a good thing, though.
