An Open Letter to Post-Abortive Women

Religion and religious beliefs have an important place in many peoples lives. When religious beliefs start attempting to dictate law, the party pushing religious ideas will loose it's credibility and will never gain it's power back to dictate sound, fiscal conservative government. Allowing people to make their own judgements and keeping government out of our private lives is what's important.

Defending innocent life is far different than "pushing religious ideas". "Loose" credibility... the same as renaming murder as abortion, reproductive choice, war on women, "loose" definitions indeed. How about allowing life?

You're kidding right? You just said that to get a rise out of ELViking right?

If not, what do you think our system of juris prudence is based on if not God's Law handed down to us through His Word?

"Allowing people to make their own judgements" is nothing more than moral relativism - and with that there is no structure to society and it collapses.

Publik Skul? It's its, not it's.

Straw man. Tell me what law doesn't legislate morals (just one), and then tell me where you derive your ethical system.

Abolition was once considered a "religious belief".

I'm all for allowing people to make their own decision, but if those decisions involve killing a helpless, innocent person to preserve one's lifestyle, that's another thing.

During the Civil War, many Southern churches advocated for the continuation of slavery.

In much of the south, many denominations preached against the adoption of black equality with whites, and decried the passage of the Civil Rights act.

There were way too many white preachers who invoked God's name in opposition to allowing interracial marriage. So, what religion may or may not teach is far too often a poor guide for what any of us should believe or do.

During all of the Church's history, from Adam onward, many awful things have been done or not done in the Name of God though not necessarily with His endorsement. Some of the Hebrews sacrificed their children to Moloch (who demanded that such be thrown living into fire, there to be consumed). There are Christians these days who advocate for the 'right' to have one's unborn child killed, and for no other reason than that of convenience.

What's your point? That we should 'allow' the continued wanton murder of the innocent unborn, since it's going to happen anyway?

My point is that regardless of how vigorously people may want to advocate for having their religious beliefs govern all of us, their beliefs are frequently wrong and are certainly no model for how we should live our lives. I don't want any deluded religious zealot telling me that I have to be opposed to interracial marriage, or gay marriage, or that being gay is a sin, or that I can't eat pork, or wear clothing made of two materials, or that I can't eat meat and dairy together, or any other thing than any God worth praying to would care the least about.

I write these words chiefly to women and girls who have had an abortion. Still, it is my humble hope and honest prayer that anyone weighing this life-versus-death choice might also read them with an open mind and a hearing heart.

I share these truths in love. Some of you already know them. Others deny them.

Yet truths they remain.

It is through obedience to Christ and in the authority of His Spirit that I write you this letter. It may be difficult to read, but I pray you will read it.

First, let us dispense with the oft-asserted notion that,...
