You are an idiotic ignoramus. Fully automatic weapons have been banned from popular use since 1934. Background checks have been required since 1993. Likewise, gun sales to mentally incompetents.

drrisk2, I've got news for you. Fully automatic weapons are not banned. The gov't passed a law in 1934 to restrict the sale of full auto's. All you have to do is go to a class 3 dealer with lots of money , get finger printed, a couple of passport pictures and a letter from your police chief or sherriff attesting that you're a standup guy and then wait a couple months for the feds to check you out.

I stand out among my conservative friends in disliking guns. I favor reasonable restrictions on the Second Amendment, such as bans on fully automatic weapons, background checks for purchases and forbidding the sale of guns to those with histories of mental illness or criminality.

Yet I cannot agree with liberals that more gun control will lead to fewer gun crimes.
