If the institution of marriage is changed to be something other than the most stable and successful environment to raise a healthy child, then it will lead to a detrioration of the society that allows that. What the government sactions and subsidizes has little to do with the environment that human beings do well in, based on a 100,000 years of genetic memory. Raise children without good role models and they predominately end up very aggressive. Call it unnaturally aggressive but it is natural. Wired in to the way that people function. Increases their survivial chances. But it makes for a hellish community with lots of people that don't function in polite society.

One significant development in the recent election was votes in four states approving same sex marriage initiatives. Until now, all previous state referenda to approve same sex marriage – 32 of them - failed.

The Wall Street Journal editorial page – a place where conservatives usually turn for intellectual capital – saw this as cause for celebration.

According to the Journal, marriage definition should come from voters, not from court orders. Americans, they argue, have “shown themselves more than capable of changing their views on gay marriage the democratic way.”
