You can't get a liberal to be responsible for themselves, much less shoulder the heavy responsibility for carrying a firearm in defense of others. The whole point of modern liberalism is to reject personal responsibility and freedom in favor of being ruled over by others--that abdication of personal responsibility means the liberal can then place the blame elsewhere when things go wrong with their lives. We have come to describe this phenomenon using the term, "victimhood". The typical "victim" mentality will never arm itself willingly, and would cringe from the responsibility for doing so.
