Don't be ridiculous. John records Jesus' words in a vision: addressed to the "angel" in charge of the Laodiceans. That is, a bishop; holding authority (a lampstand) over that branch of the Catholic church. One branch, Laodicea; it's ANGEL; not all the faithful. Jesus says he will take away his lampstand; that is change to a different leader.
