I'm sorry LesFalin, but your conclusion is based on a false premise. All "reasonable" resrictions have already been imposed on gun acquisition and ownership, plus a considerable number of unreasonable ones. The unreasonable ones resulted in nobody at the Newtown school being allowed to have a weapon, thereby allowing the killer free reign to slaughter everyone until the police showed up and he committed suicide.

The notion of the president as comforter-in-chief fits snugly with the notion of political "solutions" -- e.g., gun control -- to essentially moral and theological problems -- e.g., schoolhouse massacres.

In a well-meant message of consolation delivered Sunday at Newtown, President Obama declared that "These tragedies must end. And to end them we must change."
